Nov.11 – Game On!

Rode up Frisby Ridge on the snowmobiles Sunday.  It was my first time back out since Oct.21st when we found 50-70cm of snow up on Sale Mtn.  We unloaded around the 6-km mark and once at higher elevation depths increased to 3+ft (a 2+ft dense base covered with 1-ft of super dry “ghost dust” – a new pow term I just learnt this weekend).  Not too shabby considering it hasn’t really snowed much in a couple weeks.  Since the base was nice and solid, we were able to snowmobile most places off trail and did our skiing in the caribou closure area.  The amount of red licence plates sledding up there was surprising for this time of year – easily 20+ trucks. Depths are ranging between 2.5 and 5 ft depending on location (ie: McRae, Sale, Frisby, Rogers Pass, Mica, etc)
This morning (Monday) was the  first snowfall in town to stick on the ground.  It’s still snowing and is forecasted to continue all week (or hopefully all winter!).  Looks like it’s GAME ON from here!!
Who got the biggest dump this weekend though? Mafeking, MB, very close to where I grew up, received 65+cm! A big dump for anywhere, but their usual eastern-prairie weather returns with -30 windchill.  I don’t see myself going back anytime soon ;)
