As we all know the El Nino has been dropping catastrophic moisture in Northern England and near St Louis. But it’s been weeks since any significant moisture has fallen in eastern BC and Alberta. I’d prefer that we didn’t get the catastrophic kind of precipitation but a little would go a long way.
Lake Louise, Sunshine, Fernie, Whitefish and Castle have all received less than 10cms over the last week. Kicking Horse just squeaked out 10cms for the week. Even the mighty Revelstoke has only had 17cms this week. There also doesn’t seem to be any significant snow in the forecast for the weekend. But don’t let that be discouraging if you’re thinking of skiing this weekend. All resorts have a very good base from early December and the turns are still good.
In the BC interior conditions are better. Whitewater has 20cms in the last 48hrs and more is in the forecast for today. Red Mountain has 17cms in 48hrs and 40cms for the week. Big White has 33cms for the week. Sun Peaks has 23cms for the week.
In other popular powder resorts Whistler is reporting 13cms for the week and Powder King is reporting 0cms for the week. It looks like the Koots will be the place to be this weekend.
